Lee & Cady were a grocery store with locations in Michigan and Ohio. They had stores in Detroit at Eastern Market, Saginaw, Jackson and Kalamazoo. Gilbert W. Lee, was born in Romeo, Mich., Mar. 30, 1861. He entered wholesale grocery business in 1885 by purchasing D.D. Mallory Co. In 1892 he partnered with David Cady and it was changed to Lee & Cady. March 1907 they merged with Smart & Fox. It then became Lee, Cady & Smart. Two years later it was changed back to Lee & Cady. David D. Cady was born in Plymouth, Mich. Jan. 20, 1847. He began in the grocery business in Detroit in 1871. He was with the firm of W.J. Gould & Co. from 1887 until 1892 when he partnered with Lee. David's son Guy became involved with advertising and indoor and outdoor signs in 1905 at Brewster Cady & Staff. I believe most of the stores closed or were bought out by other companies by the 1940's-1950's.
